Hedgerow Jelly : Yum! Another lovely recipe from Pam Corbin's book of Preserves.

It's possible to use all sorts of things, but on this occasion I used blackberries, crab apples and rose hips. Although the quantities didn't produce a great deal of jelly, it actually tastes really lovely. I'll be making some more :)

Hawthorn Ketchup : More camera practise, this time using Pam Corbin's wonderful recipe for Hawthorn Ketchup from the River Cottage Handbook No.2: Preserves.

This is precious to me, because when my sister and I went to scatter our mother's ashes in the woods last May we saw these hawthorn bushes flowering, and that's why I chose those particular bushes yesterday.

Chicken in coriander, garlic and chilli marinade : This is only for fun, btw: I'm just playing with my new camera. Still, it's a very simple marinade that I've been making quite often recently for chicken breasts. Ultra-yummy, and very healthy too :)

Pyrenees 2006 : In August 2006 I made my first backpacking assault on the Pyrenees, encouraged by Andy Howell's enthusiasm for the area, and the week I'd spent taking a look around the year before.

I walked a section of the Haute Route (or High Level Route) between Borce and Gavarnie, and it was an absolute revelation. Sunshine, beautiful scenery, a profusion of lovely flowers, lizards and wee creatures, interesting food in the Refuges and a complete absence of biting insects!

My tent was a Terra Nova Laser Competition--perfect!-- and all the piccies were taken with a Canon Powershot A95.

Incidentally, I made a podcast with Andy Howell of The Outdoors Station about this walk, and the books and maps I used to plan it, and if you'd like to hear it then you can download the MP3 here or go over to The Outdoors Station, scroll down to the bottom of the page and listen to a streaming version here.

Pennine Way -- March 2008 : A winter/spring walk along the Pennine Way in the run-up to Easter 2008.

I walked the PW in September 2004, and last March I walked most of it again. In 2004 it took me 19 days, but this time I only had a fortnight, so I had to walk faster. I did:

Day 1: Edale to Crowden
Day 2: Crowden to The White House, near Blackstone Edge Reservoir
Day 3: The White House to Hebden Bridge
Day 4: Hebden Bridge to Lothersdale
Day 5: Lothersdale to Malham
Day 6: Malham to Horton-in-Ribblesdale
Day 7: Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Hawes
Day 8: Hawes to Keld
Day 9: Keld to Middleton-in-Teesdale
Day 10: Middleton-in-Teesdale to Dufton
Day 11: Dufton to Alston
Day 12: Alston to Knarsdale (lunchtime)

...and then I became terminally fed up and went home :) I regret not finishing now, but at the time it was great! Almost a week spent slobbing in front of the computer before I had to go back to work.

I made a podcast with Bob Cartwright of backpackinglight.co.uk about my first trip along the Pennine Way, and if you'd like to hear it then you can download the MP3 here or go over to backpackinglight.co.uk, scroll down to the bottom of the page and listen to a streaming version here.

Your Bio

Hello! I'm a keen walker who likes to take photographs of the things I see along the way. They're not sophisticated, but I've just bought my first SLR and I hope to be able to produce something better, as I learn how to use it. All my backpacking pictures were taken with little Canon digital automatics.

I also like cooking and eating, and so when I remember to do it I'm taking some pics of the things that I make. These pics are all taken with my new Canon EOS 400D.
